Behold: The smaller Fishtag PCB V1.1 -The one with wings
Hello from Hanna
"We have some amazing people on our team. The first PCB was already small, but our engineers wanted to improve it. The work culture at ZP is amazing in this way: Nobody ever places blame if we mess up -we focus on how to fix it and how to avoid it happening again. This creates a culture where the employees are not afraid of testing new things to see if it can be further improved. Like our new PCB."
The comfort of the fish is just as important to our team as a functioning system. This is why our engineers have gone above and beyond to create a new and better version of the PCB. The new design (V1.1) measure 12.27 mm x 8.18mm, while the previous verion (V1.0) measure 12.42 mm x 8.18 mm. This make up a 12% reduction in area!
The wings have been implemented for research purposes: To easier access important points we would like to measure. When your components and traces become as small as this, measurements made with a multimeter often feels enormous and clumsy. It feels like you have to remove a splinter with a stick.
Now we can both program and measure on our PCB. The wings are to be broken off before the tag is put into the fish, but they make the development and testing a lot easier!
The reduction of size and new design benefits both us and the fish: Any foreign object put into a body should be as small and (bio)compatible as possible.
Until next time,
Hanna T. Bråthen
Engineer at ZP
